Fortune
Is that really a fortune? Come on, fortunes are supposed to tell you something about the future, right, not some inane statement about personality traits.
Wow, I guess I just proved that fortune wrong.

however, I completely endorse your point about the frequent failure of fortune cookies to deliver a fortune. advice, personality diagnosis, whatever. it's annoying.

Perhaps the fortune cookie producers have witnessed the fruits of their "fortunes" and opted for a more practical approach of simply giving you quotes or overall outlooks on life. Gotta cover your ass somehow. They should rename them "obvious statement cookies."
